A newly established manufacturer of modular housing solutions plans to add a production facility in upstate South Carolina, state and company officials announced.
Atlanta-based Impact Housing Group will invest some $30 million in a new complex in Westminster, South Carolina, that is expected to add 215 new jobs over the next five years.
The company was formed earlier this year as the nation’s first “fully integrated, volumetric” producer of modular housing. Impact builds homes in its manufacturing facilities, which allows the company to produce housing in half the time and with less waste than conventional home construction, officials said. More importantly, they said the system could help address a nationwide shortage of affordable housing.
Impact President and CEO Cecil Phillips said the new manufacturing facility will provide "quality-engineered, modern, modular housing solutions" at a lower cost.
State economic development officials awarded a $250,000 grant to Oconee County to assist with construction and infrastructure costs related to the project. The company will also receive state tax credits for job creation; details of the incentives were not disclosed.
